Hi, I'm Nicole.

I’m a mom of two, Veteran spouse, reborn bookworm, a mega sports fan and founder of Redbird Counseling.

About Me

Some days, you feel like you can do it all. The next, you can barely get the kids out of the house on time and end up leaving everyone’s lunch on the counter. Either way, asking for help never crossed your mind, because even on the hard days it's easier to do it all yourself.

I’m Nicole. I know the weight of carrying the mental load- maintaining the schedules, homework, doctor appointments and shoe sizes. What it's like to remember which kid likes which foods and what happens when ketchup ends up on the wrong plate.

It’s probably obvious by now, but I’m a mom too. A mom who has to manage the household, keep the kids fed, bathed and entertained. Teach the kids what they need to know to succeed at life and be kind, compassionate humans…all while maintaining a career, a happy relationship, hobbies and friendships. Easy, right? I know what it's like to add more and more to your plate because you feel like you “should”, all while feeling like you’re not measuring up. For some reason, you keep adding more, despite feeling overwhelmed as it is.

I know what it’s like to finally get everything finished and want to do nothing else besides collapse onto the couch with a glass of wine. But that glass turns into more than that, and that “end of the day” gets earlier and earlier. I promise, it doesn’t have to be this way.

I’ve spent more than 15 years as a therapist.  Ten years ago when I became a mom, I knew I wanted to work with other moms because everything changes when you can sit across from someone who has also been in the trenches and can help you find your way out.

My Approach

Therapy doesn’t have to feel cold or clinical. My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and rooted in empathy and relationship. That means I don’t just look at what’s “wrong” — I help you uncover your resilience, your voice, and your capacity to change and heal. Together, we’ll work at your pace, using practical tools you can take into daily life.

I specialize in:

Women’s Mental Health — including motherhood, relationships, burnout, and identity.

Trauma Therapy — healing from difficult experiences that still impact your life today.

Substance Use Counseling — addressing alcohol or other substances as coping tools, while building healthier ways forward.

Veterans’ Support — navigating the transition from military to civilian life, and finding strength after service.

At Redbird Counseling and Consulting, therapy is tailored to you—not a one-size-fits-all plan. I have extensive training and experience in many evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches that support healing on both emotional and practical levels. Some of the methodologies I regularly use are:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) including
    • CBT for Substance Use Disorders
    • CBT for Depression
    • CBT for Suicide Prevention
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy
  • Problem Solving Therapy for Suicide Prevention
  • Advanced Safety Planning for Suicide Prevention
